European Memories in Klaipeda
European Memories in Klaipeda
Spending a month in Klaipėda, Lithuania, was an experience that gave me the chance to get to know the city's medical and cultural attractions, all of which made for a unique and memorable trip.
I will never forget my one-month internship at Klaipeda University Hospital, where I gained extensive knowledge and experience in the latest surgical procedures in the orthopedics and trauma departments. I had the honor of assisting the surgeon with whom I spent the entire month. It gave me a chance to demonstrate my skills and gain invaluable experience in surgery.
I would also like to note that the most interesting component of my experience was robotic surgery, which is not yet widespread in Georgia. It was exciting for me to see and participate in this type of surgery. Robotic systems are characterized by extraordinary precision, and it is clear that this technology improves outcomes by reducing recovery time and making procedures less invasive. Every movement of the surgeon’s hand on the robot was thrilling. My involvement in this internship convinced me that robotic surgery should be introduced as much as possible in the world and, of course, in Georgia, as it will significantly increase the life expectancy of patients and the success rate of surgery.
Upon arriving in Klaipeda, I was amazed by the organization and efficiency with which their medical system operated. The hospital I visited every day was fully equipped with modern technology. There, I learned a lot about orthopedics and trauma surgery. I observed many operations, and I was involved in orthopedic treatment, from simple fractures to joint replacements, reconstructions, and amputations. I always felt like I was facing a new obstacle with each operation, and I was constantly proud of the surgeons’ precision and coordination with each other.
The surgeons prioritized patient care and outcomes with the highest levels of compassion. I witnessed many moments when a surgeon held a patient’s hand and comforted them. I was able to expand my knowledge of trauma and orthopedic surgery. Working with them, I learned about different methods of surgical care and postoperative recovery.
In addition to my clinical responsibilities, I got to know the Lithuanian culture and participated in various activities. Finally, I would like to say that this was the most valuable experience for me, which will benefit me in my future career.
