Tbilisi Medical Academy operates the Clinical Skills Center, which is based on state-of-the-art medical education standards and is equipped with the latest technologies.
In order to reach clinical competency, clinical skills for the one-step education programs (Georgian and English-based Medicine programs) are taught under a simulated environment.
These skills comprise of practical procedures, communication skills and physical examinations of the patient, both at initial stages of training (within the diagnosis of Internal Diseases), as well as training in various clinical disciplines (Internal diseases, Surgery, Pediatrics, Obstetrics / Gynecology)
The Clinical Skills Center is equipped with different functioning Manikins, Models, Dummies and simulations, as well as disposable materials for invasive and non-invasive procedures and medical equipment required to perform physical examination of the patient.
The simulated wards of the Center are isolated from the observation room by semi-translucent glass. The Center is equipped with surveillance cameras that allow recording of student activity during examinations and remote monitoring of the activity that is later on reviewed and provided with feedback.
For the purpose of improving clinical skills, students have the opportunity to work independently with the Manikins and standardised patients in a designated space.
The training of clinical skills at the Clinical Skills Center begins from the first year of education and continues in the training stages of clinical disciplines.
The modern teaching and assessment methods/formats implemented at the Center include: SP (Standardised /Simulated Patient Institute); existing and developing real patient base; clinical competency assessments conducted in OPSE (Objective Structured Physical Exam on the initial training stage) and OSCE (Objective Structured Clinical Exam) formats.
An anatomical theatre is located near the center where the internal organs of domestic animals can be dissected.
As a way to ensure technical support during training and examination processes the Center: works closely with professors of various disciplines; trains the examination observers in SP, OSCE and OSPE formats, regularly updates equipment both in terms of quantity and quality and ensures smooth functioning of the anatomical theatre.

Each room is equipped for specific procedures, examinations, and independent student practice.
Room 1
The following adult patient resuscitation and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) can be performed on the manikin: cardiopulmonary resuscitation, defibrillation, endotracheal intubation, artificial ventilation, monitoring of vital signs, intravenous interventions. The manikin that is controlled by a special program can display a variety of symptoms and is able to follow a clinical scenario development trend.
Room 2
Observation of the training/examination process is possible using a semi-visible glass. Within the framework of the ERASMUS + project SAMEFED+, the room will be equipped with video/audio surveillance and monitoring equipment, which will be able to control and debrief the training and OSCE exams processes.
Room 3
The following adult patient care can be performed on the manikin: bladder catheterisation, nasogastric tube insertion, intravenous interventions, administration of parenteral medication, stoma care and general hygiene procedures.
Room 4
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation manikins and pads for intravenous procedures are available in this space. For independent training, the space can provide the student with appropriate manikins and medical equipment required for any type of procedure.
Room 5
The trauma manikin is equipped with a special trauma kit of fractures, burns, ventilation, limb amputation, arterial and venous bleeding kits. The following can be performed: complete management of bleeding, management of fracture and immobilisation, management of burns, patient transportation. Special pads, sewing threads and basic surgical tools required for wound closure are available in the space. A manikin for endotracheal intubation is also present in the space, as well as life-saving manikins for a basic algorithmic study, that can be used to practice cardiopulmonary resuscitation and automatic external defibrillation.
Room 6
The first aid room is available for the students and staff of the Academy, where first aid can be performed according to modern standards before the arrival of the ambulance.
Room 7
Manikins for abdominal examination, eye and ear examination, obstetrical and gynecological examinations are available. It is also possible to perform non-invasive examinations and communicate with standardised patients. A standardised patient is an actor that has been trained to play a role of a patient according to a specific scripted clinical scenario.
