Rector of Tbilisi Medical Academy, Irine Shotadze, hosted the first resident Ambassador of India to Georgia, H.E. Amit Kumar Mishra. During the meeting, the parties discussed opportunities to deepen cooperation based on shared values and explored prospects for future partnership.

Dr. Mariam Jashi, Head of the TMA Advisory Board and Executive Director of the Global Sepsis Alliance; Mr. Anil Yadav, Consul of India to Georgia; and Mr. Darispan Prasher, Chair of the organization “Cultural Diversity for Peaceful Future”  joined the discussion about the collaborative initiatives.

The Rector introduced the Ambassador to TMA’s educational programs, which have been offered to international students since 2012. The program aims to educate qualified medical doctors in line with the modern roles and competencies required in the profession. The integration and comprehensive support for international students remain among the Academy’s key priorities. Accordingly, the meeting also focused on the academic and social environment created for Indian students at TMA.

“At TMA, we create spaces that foster cultural diversity, which continue to grow organically with the support of our students. Currently, the Academy hosts over 700 international students from nearly 50 countries and around 450 Georgian students, including 397 Indian citizens. Notably, 436 Indian students have already graduated from TMA and are now pursuing professional careers in various countries,” said Irene Shotadze.

The environment at the Academy is built on the principles of equality, respect for diversity, and non-discrimination. This includes not only physically accessible infrastructure but also flexible, student-centered teaching approaches that address diverse learning needs and abilities.

“It is important that our students study in an environment that meets international standards, where they have broad opportunities for both academic and professional development,” he noted.

The parties expressed their readiness to continue active cooperation and further strengthen ties in education, science, and cultural exchange.
