TMA's Social Initiatives - June

TMA's Social Initiatives - June

🗓️ 2026-06-15

As part of its commitment to community engagement and longstanding partnerships, Tbilisi Medical Academy (TMA) organized two social initiatives during the first week of June.

On 4-5 June 2026, Maka Maglakelidze, Co-Head of the Institutional Culture Development Department, and TMA students visited Europa Donna Georgia's "Pink Space", where they participated in art therapy sessions and met with breast cancer survivors. Through patient stories and shared discussions, students gained valuable insight into the lived experience of illness, helping to strengthen empathy, communication skills, and the role of medical humanities in medical education.

The second initiative took place on 7 June in partnership with the Down Syndrome Fund to mark the International Day for Protection of Children. TMA physicians and academic staff, including Dr. Kakha Bregvadze, Prof. Ia Khurtsilava, Dr. Eka Gozalishvili, and Prof. Irakli Khundadze, provided free medical consultations to children and individuals with Down syndrome. Participants received medical advice, guidance, and referrals for further diagnostic evaluation when necessary.

TMA students assisted during the consultations, gaining practical experience in patient-centered care and developing a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by individuals with Down syndrome and their families.

Developed jointly by TMA's Institutional Culture Development Department, the Down Syndrome Fund, and the social organization "Babale," the initiative aimed to improve access to healthcare services and professional support, reflecting TMA's ongoing commitment to social responsibility and its third mission activities.
