The Doctoral School is a structural unit of Tbilisi Medical Academy (TMA). Its aim is to support the development of doctoral students’ academic competence and research skills, and to deliver TMA’s accredited doctoral educational programmes “Medical Sciences” and “Public Health”.
TMA’s doctoral programmes are taught in English. Their aim is to prepare highly qualified professionals in biomedicine, medicine, public health and related fields who will independently carry out scientific research, practical and teaching work in line with international standards. Upon completion of the relevant doctoral programme, graduates are awarded the academic degree of Doctor of Medicine (doctoral programme “Medical Sciences”) or Doctor of Public Health (doctoral programme “Public Health”).
The duration of the doctoral programmes is 3 to 5 years (6–10 semesters), which includes academic (30 ECTS credits) and research components. Admission to the doctoral programmes is competitive. Graduates of TMA doctoral programmes will be able to take academic positions in higher education institutions, work as researchers, join national and international scientific projects, or provide expert consultancy to healthcare organisations.
This program is available for Georgian students only.
The doctoral academic degree is awarded by the Scientific Council. It is a collegial body. Its members are TMA affiliated academic staff and honorary professors who hold a doctoral degree, as well as staff from Georgian and international higher education and research institutions. Council decisions are taken at meetings by open vote — by two-thirds of the members present (if a majority of the listed membership is present).
