Quality Assurance Office

The mission and vision of institutional development of Petre Shotadze Tbilisi Medical Academy (TMA) includes the integrated principles of quality assurance (QA) and quality improvement (QI), both in administrative, research and third mission areas.

The goal of the TMA Quality Assurance Office is to establish and continuously develop a quality culture within the university environment.

The core values of the quality culture at TMA are:

• Consistency – implementing the priorities stated in the mission and vision into real activities
• Establishment of unified standards and approaches
• Participation - each employee's contribution to the institution's local and international positioning and quality development
• Transparency – sharing evaluation findings with stakeholders
• Supportive environment – based on the principles of fairness and honesty

• Awareness – ensuring access to information

The Quality Assurance Office is guided by Georgian laws and considers national and international standards.

PDCA Cycle

The quality assurance system operating at TMA is based on the “Plan-Do-Check-Act cycle” principle, consists of four rings and includes both quality control (implement, evaluate) and continuous quality improvement procedures (develop, plan). Dynamic and iterative procedures are focused on ensuring the quality of TMA's educational programs and developing an internal institutional quality culture.

External quality assurance

External quality assurance refers to institutional evaluation by an independent body. The process of authorization and accreditation of educational programs in Georgia is led by the National Center for Education Quality Development, with the involvement of local and international experts, considering the requirements of the Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area (ESG 2015).

Besides the mandatory external evaluation, TMA periodically uses formative peer evaluation to further improve its performance. The achievements and challenges identified by external quality assurance mechanisms underpin the continuous development of the TMA, ensuring compliance with national and international standards.
