How can future physicians contribute to healthier communities in a changing climate? This question brought together students from Tbilisi Medical Academy (TMA) with experts from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the European Union, launching a dialogue that places young medical professionals at the center of one of today's most pressing global challenges.
As climate change, air pollution, technological innovation, and artificial intelligence increasingly shape public health, tomorrow's doctors need more than clinical knowledge. They need the ability to understand complex global challenges, collaborate across disciplines, and develop evidence-based solutions that improve people's lives.
Reflecting TMA's student-centered educational philosophy, the meeting encouraged students to actively engage in discussions about the links between environmental sustainability and human health while exploring how healthcare professionals can become advocates for healthier, more resilient communities.
During the session, representatives of UNDP and the European Union presented ongoing initiatives aimed at improving air quality, strengthening environmental governance, and promoting sustainable development in Georgia. The meeting also marked the beginning of preparations for the 2026 Youth Conference, where TMA students will take an active role not only as participants but also as contributors.
