Professor Ekaterina Kldiashvili, Vice Rector for Research of the Petre Shotadze Tbilisi Medical Academy, participated in the ORPHEUS Executive Committee meeting held on 7 September in Zagreb (Croatia). ORPHEUS (Organisation for PhD Education in Biomedicine and Health Sciences in the European System) is a European organization that brings together universities and higher education institutions in the fields of medicine and biomedicine that are committed to advancing the quality of doctoral education and research. The organization develops international standards, promotes the sharing of best practices, and strengthens international collaboration in doctoral education.
This was Professor Kldiashvili’s first meeting as a member of the ORPHEUS Executive Committee. The meeting brought together 14 Executive Committee members representing Germany, Belgium, Brazil, Croatia, Denmark, Georgia, Hungary, Portugal, Switzerland and Türkiye. The composition of the Committee reflects the international and inclusive character of ORPHEUS, bringing together different countries, academic cultures, educational systems and institutional experiences around a shared mission: to advance excellence in doctoral education in biomedicine and health sciences.
The meeting focused on strategic priorities for the further development of ORPHEUS activities, including the promotion of ORPHEUS Best Practices, further development of Labelling and self-evaluation processes, strengthening of the PhD Forum, preparation for future Annual Meetings, communication and visibility, and opportunities for international collaboration in doctoral education and research training.
The membership of a TMA representative on the ORPHEUS Executive Committee represents an important opportunity for strengthening the quality of doctoral education, research culture, scientific supervision, research integrity, and institutional capacity.
