Photo Exhibition

Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University (BSU) hosted a photo exhibition of the social project "6 Days of the Country Doctor" implemented by Tbilisi Medical Academy (TMA).

The photo exhibition visitors had the opportunity to get acquainted with the profession of a doctor seen from the perspective of medical students, in particular, the presence and work process of doctors living in the highland villages of Adjara.

"I am surprised by the Academy's project "6 Days of the Country Doctor". Although this topic is familiar and clear to Adjara Public Health Center, I am still pleasantly surprised to see the photos I found here. These are not only high-quality photos, but also, I believe, very important moments are captured. The photos convey the reality of the conditions under which rural doctors have to work. Mountainous Adjara is geographically and climatically a region that is quite difficult to access, and all this can be seen in the photos taken by the students. In addition, I would like to point out that in Adjara, doctors and nurses are the hope of the population. I think that this exhibition should be seen by an even wider audience so that we can show the society, especially the future doctors, how much work doctors do for patients" - Rusudan Shavishvili, director of Ajara Public Health Center.

"6 Days of the Country Doctor" is a new, completely different, trans-disciplinary student photo project implemented by TMA.

Within the framework of the project, six students of TMA, participating in the expedition organized in the Adjara region, observed the daily life and work process of country doctors in Skhalta, Ghorjomi, and Khulo for one week and captured them with a photo camera.

The uniqueness of this initiative lies in the fact that future doctors had the opportunity to see the work of a country doctor from the side, imagine their role and record the work process on tape. The project, which echoes the institutional culture and mission of the Tbilisi Medical Academy, aims, on the one hand, to raise awareness of doctors living in mountainous regions, and on the other hand, to promote medical professionalism among students.

The photo exhibition was attended by Minister of Health and Social Protection of Ajara Nino Nizharadze, First Deputy Minister Mari Zakanidze, Director of Public Health Center of Ajara Rusudan Shavishvili, Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Health of BSU, Professor Rusudan Khukhunaishvili, representatives of Batumi University, TMA and BSU Students, doctors participating in the project and other invited guests.

It is important that cooperation with doctors participating in the project continues in the format of webinars or meetings. In addition, the doctors were involved in the free screening of the population planned as part of the "Euromelanoma" campaign, which took place for two days in the Adjara region and was organized by TMA and the Photodermatology and Skin Cancer Association of Georgia.

As for the photo project "6 Days of the Country Doctor", this time it covers another region of Georgia. As a result of the competition, TMA students will be selected again and will introduce society to the life of rural doctors in the Guria region.
