2024-04-19
Why is it important to raise awareness of Alzheimer's disease in the community and what can medical students do about it? - In order to plan and implement specific activities in this direction, on the initiative of TMA student Khatia Devadze an Alzheimer's club was founded in TMA. The club was established with the support of Tbilisi Medical Academy and the Alzheimer's Association of Georgia. The main goal of the club is to raise awareness in society and break the stigmas that exist around this disease. It consists of both theoretical and scientific research directions and in the future aims to promote Alzheimer's research in Georgia.
"Today we officially laid the foundation for the creation of the "Alzheimer's Club", its purpose is to raise awareness in society and spread volunteering activities. As the president of the club, my main goal and interest is maximum involvement of medical students in social events" - noted the head of the club, Khatia Devadze.
In parallel with the founding of the club, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between the Tbilisi Medical Academy and the Alzheimer's Association of Georgia, the purpose of which is to raise awareness of dementia among the population through various activities, to promote the establishment of relations with youth organizations with similar functions in the field of dementia, to participate in charity events, etc.
"A memorandum of cooperation was signed between the Alzheimer's Association of Georgia and the Tbilisi Medical Academy. This is a great program of cooperation and support, with great ambitions and eager students, I am happy " - said Nona Mindiashvili, President of the Alzheimer's Association of Georgia. She emphasized the importance of cooperation and spoke about the necessity of youth activity and involvement. Because it is the young people, especially the future doctors, who should contribute to the dissemination of information in society, raising awareness and overcoming stigma. It is the young people who should have access to all the necessary information. To investigate the problem and ways to make life easier for people who are facing this problem, not only the patients but also their family members and society in general.
"The young generation should solve this problem, of course, with our help. They should be free from any stigma attached to dementia and Alzheimer's disease. They should find help for those people who have had a new childhood life" - said Nona Mindiashvili.
