BackDeborah Oluwaseyi Akinsulire
Candidate for Chairperson of Operations
Bio
Full Name: Deborah Oluwaseyi Akinsulire
Position: Chairperson of Operations
Bio:
My name is Deborah Akinsulire. I am a fourth-year medical student at TMA and I was born in London. I consider myself a hybrid minded individual. I have a love for medicine that stems from my aspiration to become the kind of doctor I've appreciated receiving treatment from as a patient, and I also have a passion for the creative world. As well as having work experience in the rheumatology clinical trials department and as a health care assistant in the UK, I have been a part of several projects as a solo vocalist and choir member, including some events at the Royal Albert Hall and St Paul's Cathedral, in addition, I play keyboard, violin, trombone and ukulele. I became an author of two fiction books at 13 years old and wrote multiple articles for the online magazine "Dreamcatcher" created by the author Cathy Cassidy. I was selected to have my essay on delivering medication through the skin published in the journal of the Brilliant Club's Scholar Program in 2018 and was awarded the Joan Peploe prize and Coldwater cup in my secondary school (where I was Head Girl) after leading a campaign to raise money for a young girl in need of scoliosis surgery. Within the university, I have been a part of several projects and events. I am one of the student representatives for my semester and a member of the CyberPatient club and Cultural club. I performed at the 2023 New Year's event as well as volunteered at StrIAT '24 and Europa Donna Georgia’s live chain 2024 event. I was also a part of the recently uploaded promotional video for TMA and am one of the class representatives for my semester.
Action Plan:
As a candidate in this role, my priority is to ensure that each and every student is heard and understood. I hope that in this role I can encourage students to speak about the things that are bothering them, whether it’s to do with the university itself or their own personal journey through medicine. This for example can be done by creating a platform where students can write about their problems and send it directly to the student academy, and can also be done by creating a closer community for the class representatives and providing the platform for more regular feedback about developments within semesters and classes. Overall, I aim to be a listening ear to students and also to help the student academy understand what is wanted by the students.
Sai Krishna Abhinav Sanapala
Candidate for Chairperson of Student Ethical Conduct, Professionalism and Well- being
Bio
Full Name: Sai Krishna Abhinav Sanapala
Position: Chairperson of Student Ethical Conduct, Professionalism and well-being
Bio:
My name is Sai Sanapala, I am a 3rd semester medical student with a passion and strong commitment to leadership, volunteering, and personal development.
I have demonstrated leadership as a Prefect, captain of my school’s Rugby and Cricket teams, and a tutor for younger students. Developing my ability to mentor others. Honing my discipline and time management skills.
Furthermore, I have contributed to my community by fundraising for a shelter for homeless youth. This involvement, alongside achieving my National Citizen Service certificate, nurtured a commitment to giving back to society. Skills that prepare me to appear welcoming and easy for people to approach.
Combined with my extracurricular activities, playing guitar and coaching tennis, demonstrate my ability to maintain a balanced lifestyle. Useful skills that would prevent me from experiencing burnout. Setting me up to be more effective in my role for a long time.
Experience working as a healthcare assistant in the NHS, gave me the ability to handle pressure well and stay composed in environments that I wasn’t comfortable in. Beneficial skills as the position I’m applying for would be place me in situations involving different, new individuals I do not associate with daily, bringing new challenges I can adapt to.
Participating in orientation week enabled me to take students around the university on personal tours. Allowing me to familiarise myself with new students and exercise my flexibility when it came to communication. Useful skill as it enabled me to have a more personal touch when talking others and showcasing my passion for taking others’ opinions into account with the aim of making a change.
My involvement in setting up the psychiatry club and help with the biochemistry club has shown already my want to participate in the wider TMA community. Something I hope to carry on.
Action Plan:
My action plan originates from my want to educate and help others on
their TMA journey generating an environment of unity. Personal struggles and
difficulties I have faced have driven me to want to provide a helping hand. The same
helping hand I wish I had.
I aim to do this through multiple ways. For instance, encouraging the production of
new clubs. These would help students interact with others forming relationships
based on shared likes and interests. This would be done by informing students how
to make their own clubs explaining the procedure in detail and encouraging personal
action from students.
Increasing the number of events. Allowing students to feel less pressure as well as
enabling them to interact with others. We would do this by advertising but also
taking students suggestions into account through possible Microsoft forms, on
events they would like to participate in and possibly organise. This would again allow
for students to take initiative building required skills they need for success in their
medical journey.
However, my main goal is to create a personal environment for students. Already
students have access and often message me with requests they have for the
university, my aim is to make this more accessible, through again advertisement and
easier access. Possible utilizing software such as google classroom to give everyone
an organized way of communicating through calendar and such. I want to encourage
everyone and anyone to be able to speak their mind freely.
Fostering a community and encouraging academic excellence is my aim. This will be
done be helping people integrate into TMA through events, through communication
and will result in a happy welcoming environment students will truly succeed in.
