“VitalCare” – Knowledge That Saves Lives

The project “VitalCare” was initiated by students of Tbilisi Medical Academy (TMA) with the aim of equipping adolescents with practically useful basic medical knowledge. The project also seeks to raise public health awareness and promote a culture of appropriate emergency response.

Today, when health emergencies can occur suddenly and anywhere, quick and correct action can often save a life. That is why the VitalCare team works with school students and young people, helping them recognize warning signs during emergencies and, if necessary, correctly administer first aid.

As part of the project, TMA’s team introduced the school students to the importance of vital signs and they taught them how to measure blood pressure, pulse, body temperature, respiratory rate, and oxygen saturation. Students also learned how to use a glucometer and pulse oximeter, how to make emergency calls, and how to recognize key symptoms of critical conditions such as stroke, heart attack, and hypo- or hyperglycemic episodes.

Special attention was given to teaching first aid basics — how to act in unexpected situations, how to ensure a safe environment, and what steps to take before professional help arrives. Around 150 students participated in the training sessions organized within the framework of the project.

The project was implemented by students of TMA: Levan Bakhtadze, Mariam Berdzenishvili, Lia Tevdoradze, Tamar Kobulashvili, and Nino Chkhutishvili. It was carried out as part of the TMA Social and Cultural Student Grant Competition, where VitalCare was selected as one of the winning projects.

VitalCare’s educational visits reached several regions of Georgia, including Tbilisi (“Green School”), Rustavi (Sports Museum), Gori (“AC” School), Akhaltsikhe (“Mzeka”), Bakuriani, and Samtredia (St. Nazari Lezhava School). Each visit was rich in practical activities and inspired students who were interested in learning the fundamentals of emergency care and basic medical knowledge.

VitalCare’s core message is simple: knowledge saves lives.

When seconds count, it’s crucial to have someone nearby who knows how to respond. The entire essence of the project centers on this idea — by sharing knowledge and teaching practical skills, we help shape a future generation capable of acting decisively in critical moments and saving lives.
