“Whispers of Danger: Exploring the Effects of Decibels on Heartbeats” – the premiere of the educational film took place in TMA’s event hall. The film was created by the students Tamar Dandurishvili and Rishu Girish Shah to explore the connection between noise pollution and cardiovascular health. It combined real stories, expert assessments and showed how much the sounds around us can influence our well-being.
The students’ work is one of the projects that won the Social and Cultural Student Projects Competition. “By combining medicine and art, we decided to shed light on an invisible threat – the hidden connection between noise pollution and cardiovascular health,” the project authors noted.
The students’ goal was to raise awareness in society through the film, so that each of them could take active steps to create a sustainable and healthy city. In addition, the project supports the UN Sustainable Development Goals and is fully consistent with the mission and values of TMA.
However, there was a long road ahead before the film premiere. The preparatory stage, which the students carried out in three main phases. The first stage involved finding partners and mobilizing all the necessary resources to implement the project. During the process, the students collaborated with specialists in the field, as well as sharing their work with students of Grigol Robakidze University (GRUNI) and as a result a summary of the project was published in the GRUNI magazine.
The second stage focused on shooting and editing a film that combined both personal experience and the opinions of a cardiologist, psychologist, environmental specialists and experts.
The final stage of the project involved dissemination of the results through the film that was shot within the project.
The premiere was attended by TMA students, administrative and academic staff. A discussion was held after the film screening where the attendees shared their opinions on noise pollution and how it affects their daily lives. It was also important to hear the opinions of specialists in the field on how much sound frequency has increased since the 20th century. This once again emphasized the relevance of the project.
At the end of the event, the project authors presented the film participants with noise-canceling headphones as a symbolic step towards prevention and to encourage noise reduction at the individual level.
“We hope to successfully foster interdisciplinary learning and inspire people to protect their health, their environment, and the quiet spaces we often take for granted. At its heart, this project is more than just a film — it’s a CALL for ACTION,” the film authors noted.
The project was fully funded by Tbilisi Medical Academy in the Social and Cultural Student Projects Competition.
