Joint Master’s Programme in “Applied Public Health”

The master's program of Applied Public Health is a joint project of the Petre Shotadze Tbilisi Medical Academy (TMA) and the Georgian Institute of Public Affairs (GIPA). Within the project framework, TMA in Medicine and GIPA - in Public Policy offers students an appropriate and unrivaled standard of education.

The master's program of Applied Public Health is a joint project of the Petre Shotadze Tbilisi Medical Academy (TMA) and the Georgian Institute of Public Affairs (GIPA). Within the project framework, TMA in Medicine and GIPA - in Public Policy offers students an appropriate and unrivaled standard of education.

The cooperation of the two universities in the academic space is the first successful example of joint efforts. The academic staff implementing the program have expertise in various areas: Epidemiology, Health Promotion, Scientific Research, Public Health, Statistics, Management, Business Administration, etc.

The program includes mandatory practice in partner organizations, which gives the student a future vision, experience and helps the employment process.

The educational program is conducted in English and is adapted to the international requirements that respond to the global challenges of health policy.

  • After completing the studies, the graduate will receive a joint diploma
  • Medical education is not mandatory to continue studying in this program.

Purpose of the program:

The goal of the master's program is to acquire and train students, equipped with modern knowledge and practical skills, competitive public health specialists who will be able to respond to the dynamic requirements of the field and contribute to the development of the field.

The program fully covers all the challenges and directions that are relevant in the field of public health. The variety of subjects allows the student to deepen their knowledge. With a special emphasis on practical skills, the program differs from other Public Health programs in Georgia.

Employment opportunities:

The graduate of the program represents a specialist in Public Health, who can get employed at governmental, and non-governmental organizations, international and/or private enterprises, academic institutions, and healthcare-providing facilities. Career development opportunities consider particular focus on the collection of epidemiological research and evidence-based data, development of larger or smaller scale projects in health promotion, project administration, supervision, monitoring, and evaluation, as well as communicating findings and so on.

  •  Diversity of disciplines included in the program; teachers who are acknowledged experts in the field; to ensure the competitiveness of graduates;
  •  Alignment of program objectives, results, structure, and content with labor market requirements and international practice;
  •  Teaching in English, enabling the graduate to get employed in international organizations and work in a multinational environment;
  •  The diversity of elective components of the program allows for a professional focus on a variety of public health issues - from the prevention and management of communicable and non-communicable diseases, maternal and child health, and planetary health to global health;
  •  The inclusion of public health laboratory direction and geographic information systems, planetary health, public health marketing, and other directions within the program will contribute to responding to the existing and future public health challenges effectively and based on evidence.

Prerequisite for admission to the Master's Program:

  1. Bachelor's degree or equivalent academic degree
  2. Passing unified national exams
  3. Going through the internal procedure,

candidates wishing to continue their studies in the joint master's program are required to submit the following documents at the time of registration:

  1. Identification card/passport
  2. Diploma/certificate from the university
  3. Transcript
  4. Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  5. Motivation letter
  6. A certificate verifying English language proficiency at the B2 level or a document attesting that the bachelor's or subsequent degree program was conducted in English

*Medical education background is not mandatory

Tuition fee:

The annual student’s tuition fee for Georgian citizens is 3800 Georgian Lari (GEL), for international students - 5000 $(US Dollar) equivalent in GEL.

Acceptance rate – 25 Students

According to the decision of the Accreditation Council of Educational Programs dated January 10, 2024 MES 4 24 0000012956, the program was granted accreditation.
