ESPCAL - Encapsulation of Salmonella phages in cationic liposomes
🗓️ 2023-12-14
In the quest to contribute to the battle against pathogenic bacteria, the project “ESPCAL – Encapsulation of Salmonella phages in cationic liposomes” has been proposed by the Tbilisi Medical Academy.
The project aims to use bacterial viruses, or bacteriophages, as potent weapons. Seeking to complement or even replace traditional antibacterial approaches, it focuses on enhancing the efficacy of phage therapy.
The research focus is focused on the development of advanced phage delivery systems to extend their in vivo lifespan, shield them from immune defenses, and improve their ability to combat intracellular pathogens. A pivotal step of this project is the exploration of liposome encapsulation as a promising technique.
The project “ESPCAL – Encapsulation of Salmonella phages in cationic liposomes” is funded by the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia, calling for basic research state grants in 2023.
