Berlin hosted the 6th International Young Researchers’ Symposium on Global Health. Maka Maglakelidze, head of the Academy's Institutional Culture Development Department, and Nino Gagua, a student of TMA, head of the Student Academy - Chairperson of Operations, were invited by Akkon University for Human Sciences in Berlin from TMA to participate in the symposium.

At Akkon University, Nino Gagua presented to the German audience the research carried out within the framework of the transdisciplinary photo project "6 Days of Country Doctor." Nino, who participated in the project's first season, gave a presentation entitled “Through the lens of a camera: exploring health determinants in rural settings with medical students.”

She shared the photos with the audience, which included health experts, scientists, researchers, and civil society, and also spoke about the importance of the photo project and its impressions on both the students and the doctors involved in it. "The days spent with country doctors will remain one of the best periods of my life. "All village doctors were united by one main thing—love for people and the profession," said Nino.

Akkon University has had close ties with Georgia in the direction of research and teaching for many years. On August 2 of this year, after the visit of the Akkon University delegation to Georgia, The Agreement for Academic and Scientific Cooperation and Exchange between TMA and Akkon University was signed.

In addition to the symposium, TMA representatives were invited to attend the annual Virchow Prize 2024 ceremony hosted by the Rathaus Berlin. The Virchow Prize is an international award, "Health for All", which celebrates exceptional achievement in the field of health and is fully aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda.

This year’s award ceremony was held in honor of laureates Lucy Gilson and Johan Rockström and was celebrated for their “holistic and systems-based approach safeguarding human and planetary health.” The Virchow Prize Award 2024 ceremony was attended by Dr. Mariam Jashi, Advisory Board Chair of TMA, CEO of the Global Sepsis Alliance, and former Member of the Parliament of Georgia.

After the end of the symposium, TMA representatives Mariam Jashi, Maka Maglakelidze and Nino Gagua were invited to the World Health Summit.

The 2024 World Health Summit was held on October 13-15 in Berlin (Germany). The event was held in a hybrid format under the theme "Building Trust for a Healthier World". The summit stood under the patronage of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, French President Emmanuel Macron, and Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

The event was attended by: Dr. Keith Martin - CEO of the Consortium of Universities for Global Health (CUGH) and former Member of Parliament of Canada, Roland Göhde - CEO and Co-founder of Virchow Foundation, Prof. Konrad Reinhart - Founding President of Global Sepsis Alliance and Member of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina, Prof. Luciano Saso - Secretary General of UNICA and Professor at Sapienza University di Roma, Bill Gates - American businessman, and philanthropist best known for his roles at Microsoft Corporation and others.

The World Health Summit is a unique international strategic forum for global health. Held annually in Berlin, it brings together stakeholders from politics, science, the private sector, and civil society from around the world to set the agenda for a healthier future by inspiring innovative solutions for better health and well-being for all.

The three-day summit brought together 67 sessions with more than 3,500 participants from 140 countries worldwide and provided an excellent opportunity for the TMA team to expand its network for future collaborative projects.
