Psychiatry Club has hosted an event dedicated to discuss the use of Psychedelics in Psychiatry. The aim of this event was to understand the recent research done on psychedelics in psychiatry and its downsides. The event was structured as a debate where first students looked at the research paper to understand its methodology, conclusions and findings and then debate with the presenters about the limitations of the given research. The papers were: MDMA and PTSD, LSD derivative and Major Depression, Neuroplasticity and Psychedelics.

Presentations at the meeting were made by TMA students: Davit Mshvildadze, Aleksandre Kanchaveli, Mohammad Hasan Khan and Katerina Arteaga.

“The use of psychedelics in Psychiatry has a long history, but now we can see the research reemerging giving psychiatrist hope for the new generation of treatment. However, in order to ensure safety of the patients, doctors have to be mindful about all the controversies that come with this new branch of psychopharmacological therapy and patiently wait until we have long-term insightful studies, after all, excitement from the handful of scientific papers can be a dangerous path” mentioned the head of the club Katerina Arteaga.
