🗓️ 2025-12-15
A team from Tbilisi Medical Academy (TMA) visited Telavi State University and Telavi Child Development Center on December 5-6, the activity took place within the framework of the Academy and Erasmus+ Institutional Development Project “LIFESTRAND.”
The students, with the involvement of the Academy’s staff, conducted first aid training. The students were mentored by Professor Ia Avaliani, TMA’s Vice-Rector for International Relations, Akaki Sepashvili, Head of the Clinical Skills and Objective Structured Examination Center, and Berika Kiknadze, Deputy Head of the Clinical Skills and Objective Structured Examination Center.
The goal of the project is to teach first aid skills to vulnerable populations living in potentially high militarized risk zones, who have been affected by the Russian occupation and military aggression.
The project envisages the development of a first aid manual by the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spanish Society of Primary Care Physicians SEMERGEN, and the University of Porto, with the aim of sharing knowledge and experience, as well as providing technical support to students and staff of Georgian and Ukrainian universities.
Representatives of Georgia and Ukraine, professors (Senior Trainers), who trained students at their universities, junior trainers, were requalified at the trainings organized by European partners. The team of trainers of TMA consists of professors and students of the Academy, who are actively implementing first aid training in Tbilisi and the regions within the framework of the project. 129 junior trainers (students) and 2267 non-medical residents have already been trained throughout Georgia because of the project.
